Some put a snorkle on for dusty conditions too. The intake area being up high gaters cooler, cleaner air for the engine, thus a better running engine.

i only put a snorkel on because i like to play in water and mud but i've been on hold of doing anything, cause of a damn big rig! so my jeep limps around right now and also gotta extend the breathers for the axles, transfercase, etc but those won't cost anymore than the snorkel, 45 bucks

Maybe so it doesn't block the drivers view? I don't think its going to be on there very much longer. It looks pretty bad but I have other things to work on first.

I guess I just don't understand why someone would go to all the trouble of building a snorkel on the passenger side? Did they relocate the stock airbox, or get rid of it all together? Do you have a picture of what the tie in to the engine compartment looks like?

I'm more curious than anything.

You guys need to read the ENTIRE thread. I am not slamming crazy days, as it was not his work. The DAPO who created that abortion of a snorkel was the one I was making fun of. My post was in no way negative, more in the lines of incredulous disbelief.

Well, as alien boy's sig says, opinions are like ********s, everybody has one. I am no exception. In MY opinion, the person who assembled that "snorkel" has no idea what the true purpose of a snorkel is, nor do they know how the turtle for the closed cooling system functions. I'm sure his intent was well meaning, but he should have sought some advice on the dynamics of a snorkel system. The more bends and distance that a snorkel has, the more the ram air effect is lost, which basically negates the entire purpose of the snorkel. GoJeep has a great write up (click for link) that explains the purpose. A snorkel is designed for TWO main purposes. One is to push cooler, cleaner air into the the air box creating a cooler air supply to the intake. Two is to protect the airbox during deeper water crossings. The above example may work well for water crossings, but is a complete and total failure for ram air.

No problem. My "slamming" post was more in disbelief than anything else. We are cool.

I agree the setup is kinda on the "weird" side but maybe this wasn't his daily driver or he didn't care much for horsepower, which he probably loss some due to the maze of pipes.

When i do mine on the xj, it sure won't look like that I gotta figure out a better way to get the snorkel on the passenger side cuz i know it'll block my vision on the driver's side unless it's a setup like the hummers, right against and below the window line.
