So I replaced my power steering pump but when driving I notice I lose power steering. I've checked the steering fluid and it's full so not sure why I would be losing power steering when trying to turn the wheels. Is there another part to the power steering I should replace?

Well..new to this forum but at 60 years old..and many moons workin on stuff..It may be you have air in the system..air will compress in the lines and pump... causing stiffening and jerky steering .Have you bleed the P/S system...if not.. many sites explain.Take care

 

Just tossen some info out there. I myself have been using Dexron III tranny fluid in my steering since well into last century. If that's a problem, I haven't found it yet.

Last week a "new to me 90", was making noise I didn't like. I siphoned out the fluid in the res, (was ugly/brown), filled with pink #3 and it's fine now.

That pump probably does more work than any of the other pulleys. A loose belt often shows up at the alternator, but when being "put to task", that belt needs to grab that pulley, it should feel pretty tight.
