Part choices?
Hey guys, been trying my best to do some searching on both the forum, and google itself, and have been reading a few different things and would just like some specific advice towards my Jeep!
Did quite a bit for tuning up the jeep since I got it, but winter is RIGHT around the corner here in Upstate NY, and my camaro is going into storage in about a week for the next 6 months, so I was really hoping to wrap up these last few things while I still have another car to drive.
First thing is U joints. Think I need at least one, so I am just going to bite the bullet and replace all of them... Plan to purchase everything from rockauto, as its considerably cheaper, and was wondering which is a good choice...
here is a link to them on RA site. http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,ca...,parttype,2392
Been reading a lot of people talking about spicer u joints... I dont see that as an option, but do see under the Dana Holding parts showing spicer in parantheses... I don't like to cheap out, but at the same time, dont need to spend more than I need to on upgrades. Just looking for a decent, OEM quality replacement. While on the subject, I have no idea what differential/axles my car has. Is there a way to find out? Or would you guys know offhand. Its a 1995 Cherokee sport. 4.0l Automatic 4x4 with the NV231 transfercase.
How many do I need total for both driveshafts? Thought it would be 2 per side, but on another thread a fellow said he had 3 u joints in the front.
Also, to try and figure out my rough start, I want to just replace the MAP and FPR. No one local even has them, and would save a ton by buying them on rockauto.. What brand would you guys recommend?
MAP - http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,ca...parttype,11207
The wholesaler close out one is only $20... with 5 of them left... $25 cheaper than what I found at autozone.
FPR - http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,ca...,parttype,6124
Thank you so much for any advice... Sorry for the scattered post, but just getting crunched for time with another crappy winter coming in and want to order these ASAP

Spicer 5-760x for the front axle ujoints.
Mine arrived yesterday, ridiculous $77 shipped to here, but worth the money. My OEM's lasted nearly 17 years. (and no worries, you'll pay a lot less than I did when you buy your u-joints. Or any Jeep part really, lol)

Haha, no not for one mate. I'm all for good parts, but not crazy. Was for two. Shipped to Oz.
I think you can buy them for under $25 a piece over in the US. This may seem a lot, especially if you see other brands for $15, but if you don't want to replace them again in no time, spend the extra money for Spicers.
Two for the front axle, which are different to the driveline ones. (I'll have to look up the part number for ye, 1310/269 type ujoint, IIRC)
If you have a 4WD, your front drive shaft takes two and your rear drive shaft takes two.
So, all in all 2+4.... is 6.

What year is your XJ? Here in Oz, I think it was 1994 or 95 that was the only year they used a smaller ujoint in front.
You can have a look on Rockauto.com, gives a nice overview of the available u-joints and where they go.
