Default p0500 HELP!!

Odometer and speedometer went dead on me ...pulled a TCM P0700 and p0500. I change out the TCM and speed sensor module. The p0700 code disappeared but the p0500 came back. I pulled the speedo pinion and noticed a cracked /broken piece on the inside of case. It looks like the pinion wasn't catching. What is that piece/part called ? And any advice on changing it out..i am ridiculously bad mechanic but have kids and a wife and need to save money

are you talking about the speed Pinion? I just removed it to check the condition and then put it back in. So I'm guessing I didn't. How do I do that? Any idea on the cracked piece?

I can't tell too well from that pic, but it is not uncommon for a 2WD plastic pinion gear drive gear inside the transmission to break. Replacing it requires removal of the rear end of the transmission to get at the gear.

Sorry bud, but that's what I think it is.

See if you can remove what's in there and replace the VSS. Drive the Jeep using GPS, or something, as a speedometer until you can get it fixed.

Tell the Cop that stopped you for speeding that it just failed.

It's called a Gear, Speedometer Drive, 2WD.

OEM part number 83503704. Around $40.00 at the dealer.

If you pull your VSS and you can see this inside you need one of these.

Thanks CCKen. That is exactly what it looked like when I removed the Speed Sensor. I am have to get a longer drive shaft because one of the previous owners put a lift kit on it! I gonna order the parts and have it all done at the same time. Appreciate the help.
