Default Overheat emergency 1999 Cherokee

Hi, I have a 99 Cherokee. This morning while driving, the temp suddenly went all the way to the right, so I immediately pulled over and shut it down. I opened the hood and there's coolant everywhere. The only thing that immediately appears wrong is that one of the hoses appears to have a section that looks like it's either disconnected or somehow has lost part of itself. Can anyone clue me in as to what this part is (attached a couple of pics)? Can I simply replace this whole section of hose without that? If so, what is the spec/part number of this hose?

Thanks!

Andy

Not good. Easy fix for the hose just replace it, but other issues could be more pressing.

Looks like one of those stupid Prestone System Flush adapters.

Yes, the caps fall off and do what yours did.

Replace the hose.

Refill with 50/50 coolant and pray.

Thanks folks! So, I need to go to the parts store, get a lower heater hose 5/8 ID, replace and refill with 50/50..... wish me luck! I am pretty sure I stopped the engine in time, but we'll see.... thanks again, Andy

+1

That's why those flush adapters are highly discouraged.

Agrout; your PCM slams the temp needle full-right to get your attention, chances are the actual temp wasn't quite that bad. Sounds like you shut down in time.
You can use a barbed splicer and two clamps if you have difficulty finding the molded hose.

The 99 head (0630) is pretty hardy.

But you definitely should keep an eye on the coolant reservoir for a while to make sure you're not using any coolant, which would indicate engine damage. You'll probably be okay.

I'm not a fan of the Prestone flush kits.

to be honest with you i wouldn't discard the hose after replacing it... it would be nice to have that part as a spare when you wish to do further coolant flushes... this way you dont have to rip cut another hose. my previous owner has overheated the engine in my jeep at least twice that i know of. and ran it out of oil. thing is still a beast at 196000. no ticks no power loss.... i love these motors i think you'll be fine... with that said i would also consider replacing the thermostat... they dont like overheating.
