Got an overhead console out of an 89 or so XJ. Looks like it will fit after I figure out the wiring. Wiring is definitely not "plug and play" into my 96. Can anyone please help me out with a wiring diagram for the 89 overhead console?

Not sure how diff the 89 is (or did you mean 98?), but I just installed an OHC from a 96 country into my 95 SE. Was not hard.

I wired the lights w/in the console itself to ea other and then cut the ends off my stock dome light. I wired the ends to the console, plugged it in and works great. You have to have the stock brackets though. The front was easy to align, and for the back, you just pull the dome light off and the screw holes are right there.

None of my wiring was the same so all of the wires had to be cross referenced with an 89 diagram and 96 diagram. I was able to do it though, so all is well, Now I'm just waiting for the compass to get calibrated. Manual says to drive in large circles a couple times and a bunch of flips around the block didn't seem to get it yet. Oh well. I still have to recover it and install it. I just wanted to make sure it worked before I started cutting.

Know where I can find OEM interior fabric?

Hello, I was wondering, since you figured out the wiring of a pre-97 xj overhead console could you please send me some info on the wires and how they hook up to get the temp and compass to work. I got the lights working but cant find anythin out there on a pre 97 xj, thanks for any info.

Hey check this out, I just found it after 3 days of searching the net. It shows how to connect a pre 97 xj console to basically anything!!! I saved it in a picture file and then i could zoom up on it, I went out and did a quick test job on my MJ and walla, the compass turned on and so did the temp. Now just need a good day to do the permant wiring in of the unit!
go to this link and scroll down and find the 91 console wiring conversion link. Its hard to read when you pull it up but like I said, I just "saved as" and brought it up that way and then i could zoom it up and actually read it. Let me know if it helps, it worked perfect for me.
