Default Overhead console

Hey guys. I usually don't start new threads but the app blows for searching things. And I want some solid answers. I'm ASSuME'ing that this should be in oem.. Considering it is an oem part... Anyways

I bought an overhead console on a whim yesterday from a 97 country at the junkyard. My 00 sport does not have one. What do I need to make it work? I know Im going to need the harness which runs down to the block by the kick panel. But I've read its not plug and play? Do I need a sensor for the temp readout and that stuff or is it part of the console itself? I'm going to be redoing my headliner and I know I'll need to modify mine to make it work. But that's about the only thing I'm sure on at this point.

My 91 had a temp sensor for its overhead console. It was behind the front bumper. When I took apart my 99s front end, I found a wiring harness in the same spot. So it should plug up no problem. As a matter of fact. I'm pretty sure I have that temp sensor still...

Lucky.. I love those overhead consoles so much I have been looking for one forever. They are always beat to crap but this one is cherry. The country just got pulled into the junkyard as I got there. So I got some cool stuff from it.

Hopefully during my endeavor we can find out what's wrong with yours too.

Which side on the bumper? I'll take a look at mine.

I did the swap about 3 months ago. It came with the harness and temp sensor. It was out of a 97 or 98 so the connectors didnt fit. The connector was behind the glove compartment and i clipped that and the OHC one and just matched the wires up by color. There are two white with black stripes and if they are switched the console wont turn on. I got lucky and matched them up first try. You will need to add a ground wire for the visor lights. The original one is two wires + and - and the OHC is one wire. So i just cut it and added the old wires from the original harness and tied the ground to the visor screw. Temp harness is already there. Just a tiny little clip in the front of the bumper. Center of the grill. Just mouth the temp sensor up with a tiny nut and bolt. Bracket part was tough. Had to drill out the old brackets rivets and i just screwed the new bracket in. Cut the headliner so the wires would fit. I think thats it. Sorry its kind of all over the place

The temp sensor won't be there if you didn't have a console from the factory, but the wiring for it will.

I did the swap last year. I swapped the connectors from the harness in the car to the new on. The wires are already there in the car so you just have to match the colors. The best bet it to pull it out of the original and put in the new on so you dont mix them up. A lil screwdriver and they pop right out.

Also youll need to calibrate the compass after you install it. Heres my thread on the issue.
