So I have a set of An Oil Pressure and Temp gauges.

The oil pressure sender unit in my '85 XJ is leaking, bad/ Shot.

Is there some way to just remove the Press. sender unit and hook up the gauge. Or will I just have to replace the unit too. And will just hooking up the gauge to the unit work better than the stock. Even though it won't be accurate.

Thanks,

-Mikel-

Is it a mechanical or Electrical oil pressure gauge? Only an electrical would need a sender, mechanical would need a fitting.

Im not sure. The gauge has a plastic tube out the back of it. and the end of the hose/tube isnt much bigger than the tube.... Does that help??

It's a mechanical gauge. Go to NAPA or a good autoparts store and they'll hook you up.

You know the gauge manufacturer and model number? You may be able to order from summitperformance or Jegs as well. Hot Rod shop etc..

the little brass piece that goes on the tubing where it tightens against the block is called a compression sleeve. took me forever to figure out what it was called(good thing i only lost 1)

p.s. most of the ppl at the auto shops around here still don't know what i'm talking about when i call it a compression sleeve, so i still have to explain it to them if i can't find it on their shelf

Thanks guys. My friend here has the right fittings for it so I'll get it up and running now..

As for the temp, when I remove the temp sender is it going to lose alot of anitfreeze? Should I have a jug or two with me when I hook it up?

where's your temp sender at? the stock location? if it's the stock location you'd pry be fine with topping it off w/ water

Well yes it is in the stock location.
But topping it off with water here is not possible. because temp here reaches
-30` Fahrenheit and lower. And right now I have a mixture that will freeze around -20.

So i was going to drain and refill anyway. I just didn't want to and then hook up the gauges and have to put more in.
