My Oil Pressure Guage up to 80 while driving and around 55 at Idle.
I have a new oil & filter and I am looking to eliminate the sender as the problem. 1999 Cherokee
Thanks
John

What weight oil are you running?
My freshly rebuilt RENIX 4.0 runs 70 off idle and 50 at idle with 15w-40 Rotella. Its a little lower with 10w-30 but not much. I verified this with a mechanical gauge. Been like that for 15k miles since the rebuild.
Verify your oil pressure with a mechanical gauge if you can first before freaking out or throwing parts at it.

I also use the Rotella 15-40 and have been for some time. Only a few days ago has my reading been like this. The mechanical guage test sounds good. I would be happy if this is a true currant pressure. Wish full thinking, maybe something has unclogged and its flowing better??

If you look at the recommended viscosities, they say 10w30 or 5w30, so 15w40 is heavier than recommended. So if you get 70 psi cold with 30 weight, then I could see 80psi with 40 weight. Why are you running that heavy stuff?

When these sending units fail, they "usually" fail with abnormally high readings.
I'd replace it. And I'd buy it directly from Jeep for the best reliability AND longevity of the part. Well worth the little extra money you will pay for this part.

Low oil pressure readings make me a little more nervous, although they CAN be related to a sending unit.
For low oil pressure readings, I generally recommend verifying it with a mechanical oil pressure gauge.
Good data = good decisions!
