Default Oil pressure too high?

This past weekend i changned my 96 Xj sports 4.0 oil which was long overdue, drained it out, changed the oil filter. forgot to put plug back in so i probably lost a quart of oil. So i put the plug back in. pour it all in, close it and didnt realize that i broke my fuel pressure sensor when changing my oil filter, so as i was backing out to clean up the garage floor a ton of oil went shooting out on the floor im not sure how much. i didnt think to drain the pan again. i went to autozone bought a 30$ oil pressure sensor and 20$ crappy peak oil. ( i had penzoil high mile for 14 at walmart ). went home poured in the whole jug, put the sensor in. and started right up. BUT, the oil pressure gauge was as far over as it can go, is this bad?

I wonder how big a heart attack he had when he started it up and the gauge pegged?

Idk but hopefully he checked how much oil he had. if only a 1/4 qrt drained out and he put in a full qrt. hes got a problem. he said 1st he didnt put the plug in and it drained out. how many qrts did you put in before you realized? then the switch broke and that lost oil. Then he added dome oil. SOOOO.... how much oil do you have????

When oil hits the floor it spreads out real good.

BUT there is a piece of factory equipment called a dipstick that one can use to check and see how much or how little oil is in the pan.

Indeed. A wonderful invention. It's a little metal stick that goes in a tube that sticks in the side of the engine.

Upon this stick are several markings near the lower end. These markings will measure how much fluid is in the reservoir. You simply pull it out, wipe it clean, and reinsert. Then you pull it out again and examine how much fluid remains on the end.

Some aftermarket oil pressure sending units are of poor quality.

I buy plenty of aftermarket parts, but the oil pressure sending unit (and the crank sensor) are two parts that I purchase ONLY from the Jeep dealership.

Well worth the extra money.

Try a dealer unit.
