Default oil pressure problem

if the cam bearings are bad I will lose oil pressure, right?
however the volume of oil flow should still be present or I think so, not sure how it all works.........but my question is this. oil pump is new and still losing pressure but if you remove the valve cover with engine running im not seeing much oil in that area. its running pretty dry compared to what ive seen in other engines. why? what could be clogged up or will the cam be the cause of this........?? the oil pump is a NEW high volume pump. thought that would fix it but ohwell....$80.00 wasted. 92 cherokee sport 4.0 i6ho

I wonder if you got the oil pick up tube on correctly..... did you try reusing the old pick up tube on your new pump?

A new oil pump will not correct an oil pressure problem when engine bearings are the root cause.

Bearings being worn Mains/cam will cause the oil to bleed off past the bearings caused by the bigger openings. which means pressure and volume are lost at the bleeding point, and everything after will suffer from starvation.

when I rebuilt my engine for this issue my cam bearings where ovaled out and the cam could flop around. had to buy a cam and lifters on top of everything elss due to the starvation of oil, my mains looked great not a sign of wear at 140k. but do it all. its a lot of work. but even more if you have to do it twice. you can reuse the pump on the rebuild... or put it in a used motor if you choose to go that way...

not a great idea, but i didn't want to put an engine in mine for a year as i didn't drive it much then, so I put 20-50w oil in it and made sure it stayed cool. got about another 8-10k miles out of it without the oil droping past 7-8psi at idle hot and not more damage caused. but may not be so lucky...
