oil pan replacement
IN BEFORE SEARCH, i did. long story short, we need a new one. is this doable? do we have to worry about messing up the rear main seal as well? and finally, i checked but im looking for a good write up. i cant seem to find one. and the ones i found that included the rear main seal as well pics didnt load? thanks.

and edit: do i need to use just the gasket, or the gasket and silicone? the service manual says no, but i thought id just ask.

i just did mine yesterday on my 2000 all you do is jack up the front end until the front tires are off the ground so the oil pan can clear the steering parts than you just be carefull of the oil pick up screen. i didnt do my rear main seal and mine had a reusable gasket so i threw that back on with some rtv to keep it stuck to the pan for easier installation. my reusable gasket didnt need rtv but i used it just to help but if i were you i would use rtv on the pan and maybe a think layer on the other end of the gasket

I would never re use an oil pan gasket, thats bad news. I would also recommend that you get the one piece fel pro. I have seen a cork one in some kits that sucks. Also IMO its a waste not to put a 15 dollar rear main seal in while you have the oil pan off and ur right there

hey guys thanks for the quick responses- just to clarify- i am NOT reusing the old gasket. haha. i wanted to know if i should use rtv too. and we dont want to do the rear main seal, chances are wed get that far and it would all leak. if it IS possible to just do the oil pan, thats all we wanna do.

just follow the directions in the fel pro package. using a dab on the 4 corners around the crank is fine, would always suggest using the right stuff over rtv. it just seems to leak less. also make sure you have the pan and block EXTREMELY clean. as in a white paper towel won't pick up grime clean. you'll want a couple cans of brake clean for the clean up

those guys are probably right i just did it the cheap way nd i am pretty sure its possible i put mine back up without touching the rear main and everything seems fine
