Default Oil Filter Part #

Don't want to get into a posting war about filter brands but just checking on what should be in my 1987 4.0L. It had a Kralinator L292 in it. That's only available from Mr. Lube as far as I can tell. I cross referenced it to a Fram TG16 which is in it now. I know, I know....but that's what they had a Walmart when I had the filter out. That Fram is for a 1991 Cherokee but mine is an '87.

Anyway, that Fram cross references to a Wix 51085. I would like to put a Wix in. The part that came up for my '87 Jeep however was a Wix 51626. This didn't fit (would not screw on threads). Is there something wrong here? The Fram is on but who knows if the Kralinator L292 was correct in the first place.
Thanks

We have metric threads! Tag says (M 20 x 1,5), on mine. I use NAPA 1626 which is their "gold", which is a Wix....

The Fram TG16 and Wix 51085 have SAE 3/4-16 threads, the Wix 51626 has the metric threads. IIRC, in 1991, Jeep changed over from the metric threads (my 91 XJ has a warning label under the hood stating that the oil filter has 3/4-16 threads). Apparently, your 87 has SAE threads ???...perhaps at some point the filter adapter had been changed out for a later (SAE) style.

I'm wondering if my engine was changed at some point. I have the metric thread warning sticker on the firewall but at least the adaptor has SAE threads. Thanks for the replies. Now I will have to track the engine code down to see if the engine is newer than '87. I guess a lot can happen in 25 years LOL.

I'm sort of "stuck on Napa". Besides I know them and like to support the local business. I would call and see which Napa gold cross references to the Fram you have on there, (the TG16), and ask if it's a WIX. There 1626 is. Just my .02, good luck.

NAPA comes back with a 1085 as interchangeable with FRAM TG16. The Wix number would be 51085. I'll check with NAPA. Thanks for the help.

Here's the NAPA filter site

I partly like them because they are everywhere. Once I "threw a cap" on a u-joint on my Jagrolay, and coasted right to one! (Jag uses Chevy U-joints, even if you don't have a 350).

Yes, NAPA Gold in the SAE thread is 1085. You can also run a 1068 (little longer) or 1515 (longer yet) if you want an oversized filter. Ironically, the longer ones cost less.

Sounds like pvc at lowes. The higher the pressure rating the cheaper the pvc :what:
