Oil filter housing gasket. Help!

The adapter is necessary. People who have eliminated it ended up with punctured oil filters during wheeling.
As for the T55 vs T60, I wonder if the transition was made from one to the other somewhere along the line, of course after eliminating the perfectly fine 9/16......
