Default Oil Filter Adapter leak fix

Hey i got a small leak around my oil filter adapter and was reading up on how to fix it. Everybody i read about had a torx bit or female hex bolt they have to take off on the filter and i went and looked at what mine has and it just has a regular hex bolt on the end of my oil adapter also im sure my adapter has been off before because who ever put it on pointed the bend straight up and down every jeep i have seen had filter sitting sideways. Is that bolt just a regular bolt or is it a special bolt?

I've heard of some people having just a plain old hex bolt. Sounds like you're one of the lucky ones.

My 92 has a regular 5/8 bolt on the oil filter adapter and also points straight up and down. There are 2 different part numbers for 4.0l Cherokees for the o-ring set. Make sure to get the right one, or just get both.

Ive found a few people have had bad luck with the Dorman kit and they ended up having to make a trip to the hardware store for the proper size smaller o rings. Best bet is a Jeep dealer, but since my nearest dealer is 1000kms+ away I ordered mine from Morris 4x4 .

Dealer is the best bet. I know Autozone has just the large o ring (not the other 2) in the Felpro brand. That would be quality

if your adapter is leaking oil, notice how it lands right on the starter... I went through 3 starters before I got mad enough to put 2and2 together and fixed that leak. Haven't had a starter problem since! I got my repair kit from the dealer for cheap. I used a T-60 torx L-wrench with a steel pipe over the end for leverage and it worked like a charm, but you're lucky to have that hex bolt!

my 1990 xj starter is so covered in grime from that leak .. its like a protective shell .. scared to clean it off

that drip was also previously landing right into electrical harness for battery, then onto starter .. that was corrected .. ground cable was toast

I did fix big o-ring .. since all they had at parts store, just a slight drip now

my "just bought" 93 xj .. noticed a small leak from heater valve, dripping onto oil filter, onto clean starter <--- thats gonna be fixed asap .. and NO adapter leak .. yet
