Default oil in air filter

Bought an 89 cherokee pioneer, 4X4, auto, 4.0, been setting about 15 months, put a crank sensor in it after all the feedback and she fired right up, pulled the air filter out and it was oil soaked. I replaced the valve cover gasket because it was leaking in the back, otherwise im stuck at this point wondering why the air filter is saturated with oil. Any info appreciated

Take the rear vacuum hose (on the valve cover) out, clean the Orifice with a screw driver, and blow the line out with carb cleaner till it runs clear.
If you still have the problem after that, you have excessive blowby and there are many writeups on how to make a "catch can".

as stated above, clear out the rear vac line. I ented up taking off the plastic line and replacing it with new rubber vac hose. took care of the oil in filter problem

Very common problem, especially for 87-90. Much can be done. Start by reading this thread....

Man, you guys are awesome! I read the thread you sent and it raised a question. There is no pcv valve on this engine....was going to add one, that pose or solve any problems?

No need nor is it wise to install a PCV valve. The CCV system works pretty well as designed.

You need to refurbish the CCV system first. Completely. I recommend removing the valve cover, cleaning it thoroughly, removing and replacing both of the grommets and tubes. Total cost for parts is less than $50, even from the Jeep dealer.

Then see where you are at after that. You must do this first.
