Post OEM Stereo Upgrade

Hello There,

My factory stereo (model # P04704343AH) in my 2001 XJ has a bad speaker channel. I would like to replace the unit, but keep a factory one in it for original look. To the best of your knowledge, what is the latest style OEM Chrysler stereo I could replace it with, without having to do any extreme re-wiring? I really appreciate any help on the subject. I have looked all over the internet, but haven't found anything yet.

Thank you for your time.

Head units, come in all deferent sizes. The width is always the same, But overall heights vary. Usually refereed to as single, or 1 din. (Std. model & most common, the thinnest.) 1.5 din (a little taller,or thicker) double din, or 2 din., (it's like two singles stacked up.) this is to accommodate the varies dashboard styles on the market. If your looking to replace a taller model (double din.) Check out the ones that have built in changers. (6 disk) Look it up by Brands. Pioneer is my favorite brand. I have a ten year old Pioneer DEH-90HHD. (goggle that model, you would be totally amazed) It came with a 10 gig. Hard drive attached. And it holds 160 hrs. of music. So I don't need a Cd changer. Any Cd played, gets copied to the Hard drive. Only have to carry the Cd along once with you. After that it's on the drive. JMO!

I would really like to stick to an OEM Chrysler radio. I didn't know if anyone had any information about how new of a radio I could put in it.

First, I'd pull the factory unit enough to check the factory plug-in connectors. Too make sure it's the radio, and not the wiring. Check the radio side of the connector pins, with a volt meter. Should have DC current thru each set of speaker wires. Or use a old speaker. (find a wiring diag. to help you, if you need. If not you should have 1 blk neg. ground, 1 red pos. (to fuse box. works w/ keys) 1 yel. pos. (to fuse box. works w/ lights for illumination) 1 violet (for power ant.) 1 blu. (for possible amp.) 4 sets of 2 (for speakers) Generally I find that the problem, is in the rubber sleeve between the door, and the body. (especially the drivers door, gets the most use) Don't know if this will help you at all. But that's what I would do. (And it's free) JMO!

Like mentioned above, check the JY. I stumbled onto a cash for clunker 97+xj with the amfm/cd/tape stereo. Think I paid less than $15 for it and I was glad to replace the tape player. Just a little dirty and needed to be scrubbed clean. FYI, I have a 97+XJ compatible am/fm/tape (no cd) for sale if you are interested (cheeeeeeep).

Default Radio for sale?

I'll take your radio if you still want to get rid of it? My 97's tape player just broke. PM me.
