Default odd problem with front axle

The other day I put my xj in 4x4 and the second I started driving I heard and felt a clunking. I went to look and the axle was hitting the zert on top of my ball joint on one side. It's like it dropped down the axle or something. What do you think the problem could be?

I'd say the zert is too tall but, unless you have locking hubs, the alxe turns all the time anyway.

That's the thing though, I did my ball joints a few months ago and have used my 4x4 a few times since then and it was just this one time that it's hit.

It looks like the shaft is on the bottom of the tube.

How would it do that? Bad bearing or broken axle?

Broken shaft or something at your vacuum disco connection.

Post a pic of the shaft at the inner C.
