Try this right now. Go turn key to acc. Shift down to 1-2 and shift back to neutral Then turn to start and see if she starts.

I agree. You try holding the key to start and jiggling the shifter in park or neutral.

I really want OP to try this right now, sounds crazy but most xj owners are crazy enough to mess with their rig at night. I know I was when I I stall my hella ecodes at 11:30 at night lol

They are built good. I live on a gravel road that climbs 1,500 feet in the 3 miles to my house. Potholes, washboard. Not that far you might say? 32 years of it takes a tole. Jeep suspension rules.

No comment on the body. The hood and passenger doors are fine though!

They are built to take abuse, and treat them well they'll last a few 100k

262K, running strong! No smoke. A little blow-by, (draft tube). Rear main seal a bit drippy at times. 1 qt/1000 mi. Great engine. Nothing I own has lost a rod or piston since I started straight wt Castroil 30w in everything over 10 years ago. On a really cold morning (35 Deg), I'm sure to give it time to get up into the works before taking off.
