Just replaced my serp belt because it was squealing like mad. Not it has a tiny intermittent whining chirp that sounds like its coming from the idler. Could it be I did not tighten the tension correctly since I had no idea how? thanks

U can try (VERY CAREFULLY) spritzing a small amount of WD40 on the belt (motor idling). If the noise stops, it's probably the belt, if the noise continues, probably something else. Either way, the WD40 will dissipate quickly and u r back to where u were.
After we did our a/c overhaul last summer, the new belt would squeal as soon as the a/c comp engaged. After 3-4, ever so slight, snugs of the belt, the squeal became shorter until gone. I figure u want the belt as loose as possible but snug enough for no squeal. After the a/c comp, my guess is the power steering pump places the most load on the system.

Mine used to squeel when I turned on the AC. I tightened a a little and it made less noise. Tightened a little more and the squeel is gone. So for me, I tightened the tensioner a little at a time till the squeel was gone.
I can't comment on this, I need more specifics. Can you post a picture?
