Even when I got my jeep the horn did not work. I can hear the relay click when I press on the steering wheel. Yes, the horns have been fully submerged in water a number of times. I measured the voltage line to the horn while it's engaged, but there's 0V in. So I guess I'm asking if it's just the relay or something else I'm unaware of. Any thoughts would be great!

 

Fuse #20 (15A) powers the relay coil so it can be good and the horn will still not work however the relay will click.

Fuse #21 (15A) handles the current of the horn so check this fuse to make sure it is good.

 

1. relay is bad (it can still click)
2. wire is broken between relay and horn.
3.there is no feeding voltage to relay socket

remove relay and check by multitester or test light:
feeding voltage coming to relay
resistance between terminal going to horn and ground
use jumper wire in place of relay (you have to know where to install it

 

My jeep didn't come with an owner's manual so my fuse pin out was unknown. I looked it up on here and sure as shoot it was a fuse. Thank you for the quick response fellas.

LOL. I love my air horns. Had them since 1969 and swapped them from vehicle to vehicle.

Those compact one-piece units on ebay or frm Griot's Garage are great. Loud and easy to mount. I used them the other day and I got the finger in return!!

 

Is there a separate relay as well as the fuse? My horns are not working as well but the connections on the horns look good and so does cabling.

 

Use a multi-meter to measure from the positive terminal on the horn to ground while someone presses on the horn. If it's 12v your fuse and relay are good, the horns are bad. 0V is a blown fuse or bad relay (highly doubt it's a pinched wire).

 

Yeah, I already had the info from this post or another on how to test the horn. My original question was is there a fuse and a relay or just a fuse. Since I get that there is a relay most likely, where the hell is it? I know where the fuse it. I have a 1996 6cyl 2x4 Cherokee.

I believe it's the same as a 99. If I remember, it's in the fuse panel in the passenger floor, it the lowest one (there should be 3 or 4 in there in a row).

 

I gave up the ghost and bought an expensive service manual for the XJ. I am waiting for it in the mail. So far no luck finding the relay. Will post my findings when I find it and check or replace it.
