Visit Cruiser54.com and start going through the tips for your Renix XJ. Also, change all the fluids.

Change all the fluids and filters first so you know where she stands on those.
Check all other wear and tear things visually.
and then, drive her. I wouldn’t spend anything until you know what she needs. Put some miles on it and see what pops up.

My my opinion at least

Use it in both. Dex/Merc of any brand.

ATF for auto transmission AND transfer case - as Earl mentions.

Diffs will need some gear oil. 75w-90 or 80w-90 - grab the FSM from Cruiser's site and check the spec for your year. Some folks use the thicker gear oil and have had good results.

I have the Mobil 1 synthetic 75w-90 in mine and everything seems to be running well.

If you've never dealt with gear oil.. it reeks.. REEKS... wear gloves and be careful.. I got it on a jacket and that was the end of that jacket.

The friction modifier Ford uses smells like rotten eggs. There is a new bottle in the garage that smells, and i havent even broke the seal. Nasty stuff.

and you don't need to remove the trans pan to service it. drain and fill. Grab a gallon of Dex/Merc.
