New to Jeeps need some help!
I just bought my 2000 xj a couple days ago.
Some issues i need help with.
Some times when I crank it runs like ****. Throws 3 codes. Multiple cylinder missfire. Missfire on cylinder number 3 and 4. I changed spark plugs ran premiuim and some lucas through her but still having the issue. Thought maybe it could be a coil pack going bad but was told it would do it all the time.
It has a small ticking noise. Kinda sounds like a lifter taping but its not taping at the top of the engine. Sounds kinda middle or bottom. When motor is turning rpm's or driving I cant really hear it. It does have a small exahust leak. I pray it dosnt need a new motor. Seems to have plenty of power.
Belt squeels sometimes. Cant figure it out. I dont think its a bad belt though. Does go away when water is sprayed on it.
I took it through a mudd hole last night sank it up to the top of the wheels. But going half way through about 15ft it was chugging just fine. Cleaning out the tires and spining what not. It has Detroit true trac lockers in it with 4.11 gears. But when it started bogging down it felt like i was loosing power. It started runing sluggish and almost cut out the first time. I quickly put it neutral and reved the engine a tad bit to get her running smooth again. I then put her in reverse to back out of the whole. I had this thing floored and it was doing a snails crawl. not spining tires nothing back. Once i got out of the hole it seemed to regain power. under peer pressure "ahem" me being stupid. I attempted it once again got to the same place and it bogged down felt like i had no power and wanted to cut out. Again i had this thing floored. Once I knew she was gonna cut out i turned the engine off for fear of hydrolocking it. I went to crank it back up and it did nothing. Was wenched out and tapped on the starter and she cranked up.
My concern is why did i loose power? Was it to little motor to turn 33 TSL superswampers that were locked? If i was able to keep power i would have made it through that damn mudd hole. Any thoughts guys? This is my daily driver i really dont like mudd but there are occations your gonna have to get some mudd on the tires.
Also my belt squeels sometimes. And when the truck is sitting still in drive or neutral and i go to turn the wheel its like i have no power steering. I give it a little gas and it turns fine. I bought this jeep cause i wanted a daily driver/ trail rig. I am new to jeeps and the 4x4 world. So any advice or knowledge would be great. Cause the other night left 9 guys scratching their heads going i dont know wtf just happened. In fact whe i was backing up i was going so slow they said are you in 4 wheel drive. I know you didnt go through that mudd hole in 2 wheel drive. And of course i was in 4 wheel low. LOL

Pull#3 and 4 spark plug check for color difference between 1,2 , 4,5 check s/n head 0331 located Lt side #3 and 4 intake manifold heads in 2000 2001 were bad about cracking between #3 and 4 cyl.
you should have plenty of power to turn 33's i do it all the time and i wheel down at the superlift off road park in hot springs arkansas. i'm planning on rebuilding my motor soon and throwing a few other goodies in while i'm at it. but i can't explain why you'd lose that much power other and you hitting a really bad spot in that mud hole and it bogging down the motor....i've done that before. its hard to tell without being there.

If you went through water quickly that was up to the top of the tire, you probably sucked a little water into the intake. It took you a minute or two to clear the air box and filter. You can't go through water that deep unless you creep, unless of course you modify your air box to take in air some place else besides just below the head light.
Well i think you right I have a k&n filter that is open. The guy before me took out the factory airbox. It does have a snorkle but is not hooked up. I plan on hooking the snorkle up and trying again later. Also the missing has stoped I changed spark plugs and it seems to run fine now. No more codes.
