Need quick help. Missing Keys.
My keys are missing (hopefully temporarily) and I need to move my XJ. 1991 4.0.
I installed a push button ignition a while back so I can start it, but how do I disengage the steering lock and the shifter lock? I have heard you can "break" the steering lock, but what about the shifter lock?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

The shift lock is easy. There's a cable that runs from the column to the shifter. Pull the bezel off of the shifter and you'll see the cable. Remove it and you'll be able to put it in gear.
Thanks, I appreciate that. Sounds like maybe the steering lock could be more difficult. Any quick way to disengage it without breaking it. I wouldn't matter if I have to break it, I just need to get it moved.

I had to brake one on a Mazda. All I did was crank the steering wheel as hard as possible until it turns free. But I don't know if would be the same for the XJ's. I would only do it as a last resort.

Didn't you promise us you'd be oughta here by 10:34 AM today. We've all had enough of your crap. Disrespectful to us but wanting us to respect you. Be a man and keep your promise. Hit the road!!!
I don't know of an easy way to disengage the steering wheel lock. Some folks crank on the wheel until it snaps....honestly I don't like that method with the Saginaw columns because of where the lock pin is located. If you are unlucky, you'll be disassembling the column to remove the broken pin when it finally jams something up.
If this is a Saginaw column, and I think it is, you can remove the lock pin without damaging anything, but you have to pull the wheel and cam lock cover, you should then be able to see the retractable lock pin at the top of the column. Hacksaw it flush and it's done.
