Need info about my diff and gearbox (pics attached)
The front axle is a dana 30 they all came with that,The rear is a dana 35 which is crappy. The t case i can't read the top number on the tag but its either a 231 or 242.
Will re check the tcase tag number .. about the rear diff.. this machine is fassst on highway and a bit slow on hills, after all its a gcc jeep it came from kuwait lol and i guess they have saharas and highways only there.
Model 242J and ratio 272 ... what should i know about it? And whats the difference with the 231?
The difference is that the 242 has the ability to stay in 4wd on dry conditions without damage. hence the full time 4wd. The 231 is a part time 4wd. Low traction only. People argue over whether full time or part time 4wd even matters or makes a difference. I argue that if you need 4wd traction it is always lower than normal so part time 4wd would suite the need. Others like to put it in full time 4wd and not worry about road going from hard soft wet dry ice ect.
Both are good cases. The 231 is more popular and is great for aftermarket parts and upgrades.
I love having the full time even tho I don't use it much. People who live in snowy or very rainy areas would really benefit from it. I'm in So.Cal. so I don't 'need' it but have used it plenty and like having the option.
