Hey Guys. I just replaced the lower and upper ball joints on my 89 XJ and when I was putting it back together I noticed that the position of the front axles in the tubes had changed drastically, so much that on the left side I had to bend the dust shield out slightly all around to keep it from rubbing. I used Moog stock replacement lower joints part number K3137T. I replaced the threaded taper inserts and set them to a depth of .206" when measured from the bottom of the knuckle. They are approximately even with the top surface of the knuckle on both sides. I am thinking that I have to increase the depth more but then they will protrude from the inside of their threaded bore. Has anyone encountered this problem? Is it alright to have the inserts protrude from the knuckle? I think that this would increase the likelyhood of failure because the insert would not be fully supported. Any and all help is appreciated.
