Hi all.
This weekend we were out wheeling and my son broke his front right ball joints that also tore up the axle shaft.
He has a 1999 but it has the smaller 260 joints. I know this because we replaced them already and had to take the 297s back for the smaller ones. All I can think is that one of the previous owners must have swapped the axle out just as we are going to do. Either the entire axle or just the shafts. I don't know which. I have a 97 XJ with matching gear set sitting waiting to be sold....so after all that.....Here's my question.
I am thinking I will just swap the front axles from my 97 to his 99 to get him going right now. After the swap I want to repair his axle and put it back in the one I am selling. I would like to replace the axles with the stronger u-joints when I'm doing it. The questions.
1. Will the new stronger (bigger u-joints) just slide in if I get them with the right spline count?
2. Was there a difference in the spline counts in the D30?
3. Should I even care and just get the same type axles? I kind of just want to sell it in as good a condition as I can.
4. If they will slide in are the splines in the hub the same as well?
5. Any other questions I didn't ask that I should have and what are the answers? lol
Thanks.

Hey Dude,
1) Edited, read it wrong...the bigger (go with 760 I think) should work on the 99, believe they changed in 95+. Don't know why the 97 has smaller.
2) 27 spline for everyone!!
3) that's your call
4) see #1?
