Default Trying to save transmission

So the quick disconnect on my transmission busted and all the atf poured out, didn't notice it and tried driving but didn't go far. Parked it and had a friend tow it but he drove it onto his trailer and into his shop but revving the hell out of it in 1st, probably what messed it up. Anyways I changed the quick disconnect, topped it off with fluid, drove it a few hundred miles but it doesn't shift right.
It'll shift between first and second, struggles a bit into 3rd and over drive just doesn't kick in. Also doesn't have power like it used to, lacking on the torque and doesn't have nearly the pick up it did.
Any idea's of what I can do to resurrect it, or time for a new tranny?

New transmission time. Aw-4s are cheap enough anyway.
Do you have a 2x4 or 4x4? Now is the time to convert it if you want.

You put Dex/Merc in it, right? Not ATF+4?

And yeah your "friend" should have used a damn winch...

You can try running some TransX through there to see if you can remove the varnish cooking the ATF created, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Wow, a tow bill sounds like a bargain about now, eh?

Yea I used the dex atf. Didn't have a winch so he decided to try to drive it, some mechanic he is. Its 4X4 but has 240K miles so I think I'll just start with another XJ

There are a lot of idiots out there making a living turning wrenches. Doesn't mean they have any sense.

240k is just well broken in.

I have driven a few hundred miles since that happened a few weeks ago. But my tranny completely started giving out today. Time for a new XJ or try to find a YJ

Grab a used one. They're bullet proof although not idiot proof. Some guys can screw up an anvil with a rubber mallet.
