Need help, what is this? pics inside
At first I thought I was looking at a kickdown linkage but on second look at the photo's orientation it appears to be your 4WD transfer case shifter linkage. Reach up above your trans in the area under the hump where that shifter rod comes through the floor. Feel the end of the shifter rod for a rubber grommet-like thing. That'll be where this thing joins it. Couple them together by pushing it into the grommet. If it slipped in very easily then it will fall out again later - so you should apply some kind of retainer like a clip ring or safety wire. If it popped in with resistance then it will probably be retained for awhile but you should still add a clip-like restraint.

that is the 4x4 shifter rod. It connects to the 4x4 shifter mounted to teh tranny tunnel, it should be about 8" above where the rod is hanging down, you should see it if you look up. The plastic bushings are usually green. It can be pushed in by hand usually, but I've run into some stubborn ones and grabbed a set of channel locks.
here we go (amazing what a little google searching will find)...

the rod in this original thread corresponds to the one thats connected with the black bushing in the linked thread. The green bushing should be in the side of transmision. In the pic, the front of vehickle is up, drivers side is right (with 4x4 shifter mounted to tranny tunnel), the transmission is on the left, rear of vehicle is down.
