I cant find the fuel filter, i tryed to google it, but i cant find and pic or anything. it says somethign about being near the fuel tank but i still cant find it. i have a 1998 4.0 L inline 6 4x4

Just follow the fuel line from the tank frontwards and you should find it mounted to the frame rail

X2, you can't miss it. It is usually under the drivers side inside the frame rail just in front of the rear tires.

I believe on 1997-2001 XJ's, the fuel filter is part of the regulator which mounts to the fuel pump inside the fuel tank. It's all one unit. The dealer only sells the unit as a whole, but I think you can get the seperate parts at Kragen/Autozone/Advanced.

97 through 2001 is built into the fuel pump . You have to replace the fuel pump to change filter.why they did that.

There are two filters in the tank and they are replaceable without replacing the entire pump assembly.

if you can lay under your gas tank, with your feet out towards the rear bumper it should be right next to the framerail on your right. you should be able to follow like a 3/8 black fuel hose right to it.

Not on the 97-01 models. It is in the tank.

you sir, are correct... i looked quickly at his description and i thought it said 1993. its in the tank guy... good luck.
