Curious, did you check to see if you had power at the connection behind the cigarette lighter?

Is it the lighter element itself not working, or does the socket in the dash not have power?

There is no power to the socket at all, I only use it to charge my phone since I have an hour and a half commute to work

OK, so you cannot get your phone charger to work from the socket?

Look up inside the socket with a good LED flashlight and see if the center "button" is rusty or covered in ash deposits.

Have you verified that it's not the charger itself? Sometimes chargers have an internal fuse as well. Have you put a meter on anything at all?

I haven't checked it with a meter yet but it used to light up around the opening of the socket.

No relation to lighter power. That's dash light circuit .

All fixed! Turns out that one of the wires was frayed so I just replaced it.
