Default Need 4.0 liter engine -1989 Jeep Cherokee Laredo.

Any one know what the best place to get an 4.0 L for an 1989 Jeep, Cherokee, Laredo?

We have Auto Zone and O'Reilly auto part stores here in mt.
Do they sell engines?

I wonder if I could buy one that has a little more horse power?
Do they still bolt up the same and fit a BA10-5 speed?

Turned a 2 wheel drive 1967 3/4 ton Sweptline pickup into a 4x4 and just don't want to do any more engineering.

Thanks! John

Both Oreilly and Autozone sell remanufactured engines, I haven't any idea if they are good, bad or indifferent.
If you want more horsepower, most folks suggest a stroker motor. AFAIK you'll have to build that yourself. Not sure if I'd put one ahead of a Peugeot transmission.

It's real easy.

I would not put a higher horsepower engine in front of the trans you have.

Don't mean to thread jack. How hard was the 4x4 conversion on that d200? I've got a sweptline myself. It's a 1970 D100.

I think I'll check the part stores tomorrow.

If you are going to change that d100 into a 4x4 buy a 4x4 and use it for parts.
It will save a lot of time.
The front and rear end bolted right in.
It was the brakes, cross member, sway bar, linkage, exhaust, drive lines, and cooling system that took all the time.
You can go to sweptline.org and find out all you need to know.

Still looking for an engine and found some on line for about $1,200.00-$1,500.00, BUT YOU HAVE TO SHIP THE CORE AND PAY FOR SHIPPING (around $700.).

Any put in a remanufactured engine lately?

Thanks!~John
PS Still haven't got my Jeep back from the trans place (7 weeks).
Sort of putting the cart in front of the horse.

Where are you?

I have a Jasper low mileage rebuild Renix era engine, currently in son's garage in NJ.

PM if within your range to pick up.

I'm In Ashland, Montana, quite a ways away.
I wonder what it would cost to ship that far?
Is your engine a 4.0L-242cid because I guess it would have to be the same to fit?
What year is your engine and could you tell me more about it (mileage)?
Thanks!~John
If you didn't want to much for the engine and I could pay the shipping?
