Default My XJ died while driving. Turns over and putters but won't start.

It's a 1992 with a 4.0HO. Turns over strong.
the fuel pump primes and I smell fuel under the hood.
Battery has been tested. All grounds checked cleaned and solid.
in the last week (after it shut down).. I've done;

-new/complete Distributor. Including CAP and rotor.
-O2 sensor.
-Cps sensor. I'm wondering about this sensor, i bought it at O'Reilly's before reading threads about all the issues with thier sensors. i can't find a mopar for this year.
-New/Remann Starter.
-Serpentine belt.
-Spark plugs.
-Plug Wires.
-Coil.
-Temp(coolant) sensor.
-Coolant flush.
-Thermostat.
-New alternator.
-Oil pressure sending unit.

When turning it over it does kinda sputter after I let off the key.
was running great when it died. No bad noises or anything just shut down. I was on a bumpy washboard road.
any thought would be very appreciated. Also Any suggestions on a brand of CPS sensor to get plz!?
thanks!!

What's the fuel pressure in psi?
Does it have spark?
Is the ballast resistor/wiring intact?

Not sure on fuel. Yes it has spark. Resistor wiring is Good.
I managed to get it to start by pushing very lightly on the gas pedal and turning the starter over for about 10 seconds.
fired up and runs very smooth holds idle drove it around the block just fine.
but when I turned it off and try to restart, it didn't want to, unless I held the gas very slightly. and it took about 3 tries at 5-8 seconds each.

I feel like it's not getting correct air flow/mix.? Wondering about my manifold intake temperature sensor?
also catalytic is rattling and definitely was not before.

Crank-no-starts that attempt to start while feathering the pedal is a common symptom for a failing/failed idle air controller (IAC). Because it is getting no air unless you feather the pedal, it is probably flooding during startup attempts. You can help clear the flood by placing the pedal all the way to floor then cranking a few times (this will disable the fuel injectors while pedal is too the floor). Then try feathering again.

Thanks, I'll check or replace it.
I forgot to mention my temp gauge is in the middle when its off.. goes to zero when i turn key to first point, but while trying to start it goes to max.. odd. When running it seems to function normally

Thanks to all for taking the time to respond. I put a new IAC in it first thing this morning, and it fired right up!
Thank you very much!
Now I can get back to the work I want to be doing on it.
