Turns over but won't start

I have an 89 Cherokee Laredo, If i put it in nuetral then back to park sometimes this works. I heard about an ignition control switch??

OK, so I need a couple of things cleared up in order to answer your question. Your Jeep's starter turns the engine over, but it does not start, is this correct? Does this happen all of the time?? Are there times that you can not get it turn over, unless you move the shifter??

It will always turn over, just not catch

When I say "catch", I'm referring to the starter not engaging the flywheel, but just spinning. Is this what you are referring to? Or do you mean catch as in the engine turns over, but just doesn't start??
