ATF+4 and DEX/MERC are really not compatible. It's a long drawn out process, and expensive, but a transfusion to one type of fluid should be accomplished. There are several ways to do this so if you search the forums, or Google "Poor Man's Transmission Flush" you will get several ways to go over to a new ATF, or at least change out as much of the existing fluid as possible and replace with new fluid. As a note, ATF+4 in the AW4 has reportedly caused transmission slipping, but others say it's okay to use ATF+4. I guess it's your choice, but as I said, ATF+4 and DEX/MERC aren't compatible, so renew to one kind or another.
I did this and switched to DEX/MERC ATF after having the dealer use ATF+4 in my transmission (long time ago). Drained/replenished, drained/replenished, ad nauseam, untill I ran two gallons of DEX/MERC through it. Followed up several hundred miles later with another gallon of DEX/MERC but I don't think all the old crap is out of there. Whatever the case, I have no slippage or other transmission problems as of now (knock on wood).
As another note: A process described for a poor man's flush is to detach a transmission cooler line from the radiator and run the engine until all the ATF is pumped out of the transmission, then replace the fluid. In my opinion this shouldn't be done. Damage to the transmission could occur when it is run with no fluid.
