1st and 2nd means your solenoids are working. Maybe need to clean the connectors coming from the trans in the engine compartment passenger side. But more likely need to clean your NSS. It must be shorting/staying in 1-2.

Alright sweet, thanks for the idea. ill look in the morning and see what I can find out... Makes sense cause the engine bay is covered in mud and water. and it was splashing bad under the hood so ill see what I can clean up....

If you dont mind me adding my issue to this as my thread has died.
ive got the 42re in my wj. had p1757..replaced the governor pressure sensor, and the solenoid. Worked MINT for a week, then this morning threw the code again..and felt like it was taking off in 2nd gear. If I put it in 1st..then it takes off in first and I can shift manually just fine.. Thoughts?

not a clue haha, my freaking jeep has me soooo boggled right now I am going crazy. I have my old sensors which I wouldnt be surprised if they were perfectly. I would gladly let you use them. and see if they work, if they do we can work something out.

I was under the impression, because of what I've read, that 1st and 2nd are shifted hydraulically by pressure and vehicle speed and that 3rd and O/D are electronically shifted. The problem may be the TCM.
All gears are selected by the TCU. b/c he has 1st and 2nd, the solenoids are working. 1st requires one and 2nd requires both solenoids. It is behaving like the gearshift lever is 'stuck' selecting only 1-2. I still think the connectors or NSS is the issue. You can back probe the TCU connector to check if the NSS is working correctly.
