Just so you know, ignition switches are easy to bypass... I would say if I thought my ignition switch was bad and I didn't think anything else was wrong with my vehicle, I would "bump" that starter over, get it started and move it to somewhere where I can work on it properly. If you can't get the starter to turn over the engine (assuming you have a strong 12V at the starter) then pull the starter and have it checked at your local auto parts store. Fixing the ignition switch (that might not be bad) is a moot point if the Jeep still isn't going to start. Testing and diagnosing is the only real solution. Please try to understand that some of us are really trying to help so we can feel a sense of accomplishment when it is finally fixed.

There are only two wires that go to the starter, a smaller green wire and then the large red wire from the battery. With the ignition switch turned to the run position, short those two wires (or the terminals on the starter motor) together with a screwdriver -BE SURE THE VEHICLE IS IN PARK AND THE E-BRAKE IS ON- vehicle should start. If it still doesn't crank, check the battery cables, still doesn't start- pull the starter motor.
Oh, and if it cranks but doesn't start then you have other problems... start looking in the area of the ASD relay.
