Mr Gasket brand Thermostat Fail

Installed a water pump and thermostat set two years ago. Thermo was Mr Gasket brand. It failed recently. I tested it in a pan of water on the stove and a thermometer. It would sometimes open, and sometimes not. That agrees with what the gauge was telling me.

Anyone else had a Mr Gasket failure?

I've heard of many non-OEM thermostat failures. Do yourself a favor and find an OEM thermostat and be done with it.

Engine: 4.0, new lifters valve job with new springs and exhaust valves, preload set with shims

Best way to know what the engine sees for temp is with a scan tool to see what the CTS is reporting. Use a STant or OE not a duralast or one with a weep valve, stupidest invention I ever saw. Use the OE temp, not lower or you will not come up to temp and run in open loop, foul plugs, and fail inspection for monitors not ready. The rated temp is the temp that the thremostat STARTS to open at, so, you should not be colder than that when up to temp.
