Mouse from hell
Just finished repairing and or replacing the mouse damaged wires on my 96 xj. Damage was limited to the engine bay as far as I can tell. Now when I try and start it, all I get is some chimes and clicks and no starter engagement. I thought it might be the NSS but no starter in all gear and after shaking the gear shift. When I got the Jeep, the gentleman that had it had a power pack that he hooked up to the starter and turned the engine over to show me that it wasn't locked. The plug wires were shredded so I went ahead and changed the plugs, wires, new rotor and button and cap and coil while I was at it. Where can I go from here?

Check the small wire on the starter solenoid first. Mice love chewing that exact spot on the 4.0 because it's tucked under the exhaust manifold.
If that wire is intact, check the ASD relay in the PDC (fuse box under hood). Swap it with the horn relay. They also nibble the coil trigger wire near the back of the valve cover.
