What would cause this? Looking at picking up a 97 that has this issue. The motor was replaced.
Im thinking iac or the tps...

Ideas?

 

Honestly, don't buy it. I have a similar issue that I have spent hundreds on trying to fix. It could be something simple like a sensor, or it could be something like faulty wiring, bad ecu, bad grounds, etc.

 

First suspects would be secondary ignition. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor.

Sensors can be involved as well and most can be tested. TPS comes to mind first, rather than an IAC.

 

Wouldn't scare me. Beat 'em down on price stressing the unknown cost to repair....

 

Wouldn't scare me off either IF the price is right. I always use any and every "symptom" as a bargaining chip.....

 

Especially one with an "unknown cause". " I don't know. If it's something major, my wife will be really mad".

 

I don't see why your wife being mad would bother XJ88?

If you put the induction pickup from a timing light on a plug wire and it doesn't fire, right there without removing a thing you know there is a spark issue. Then "bid with confidence!"
