Default measurement question

Hey guys. Im going to buy an air mattress to put in the back of my rig for camping. What size air mattress will fit in the back? Can someone measure the rear interior of their rig with the 2nd row seat down to get the dimensions? Im thinking a twin would maybe work?

You mean to tell us that you can't take that measurement.

OMFG this is pure gold

I suppose you want us to inflate it, and sleep in it too?

lol... ok... I'll save you a LITTLE bit of time. A twin mattress isn't going to fit. No mattress is going to fit.

You have to use a piece of 4-6" foam cut to size to get it to fit.

There is only one proper way to measure your XJ for a air mattress.

1. First you're going to need a full scale mock up of your Jeep, constructed from 2x3 or 2x4 lumber. In order to get accurate measurements. Don't skimp on this step, because it will effect the accuracy of your measurements.

2. Take accurate measurements of the full scale mock-up cargo compartment.

3. Using several pieces of cardboard, construct a template to fit exactly in the space desired. This should only be done using the mock Jeep, as the real one is not suitable for this step.

4. To double check, now take accurate measurements from the cardboard template and backcheck against the measurements taken directly from the full scale wood mock-up Jeep.

5. Only now are you prepared to execute the order of an air mattress by carefully comparing your measured (gathered under controlled conditions) values against the listed specifications of the prospective air mattress.

The only other alternative to this proper procedure I can can think of is to walk out to your Jeep with a tape measure and jot down a few numbers. But it's risky.

Whats wrong with sleeping on the roof? Star gazing is much more enjoyable up there. Just be sure to bungee cord yourself to the luggage racks so you dont roll out of bed in the middle of the night. Wear a poncho in case it rains.
