Default New Water Pump-heating up

The OEM WP was leaking coolant so I decided to replace it with a Gates 42004. Which is supposed to be the reverse rotation model. The XJ is now running above the 210F mark. What would cause this?

20K ago, I replaced all hoses along with Thermostat. Jeep was running fine before the WP swap, needle was always on 210F. I have flushed the cooling system 3 times on this car since I have owned it. So I am pretty confident that air in the system is not the issue. The electric fan comes on when it's supposed to and the mechanical fan clutch was replaced about 12K or so ago. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

The Gates 42004 is the standard rotation version. But says it is a direct replacement. Did you compare the two to confirm it is the same?

Default General FYI

Rotation explained.
Standard = Same rotation as crankshaft.
Reverse = Opposite of crankshaft

As a rule, on serpentine belt systems any pulley on the smooth side of belt is reverse, crankshaft is on the grooved side.

I honestly can't remember, it's been months when I installed it was in early during the year, which is quite cool weather here in Texas.. XJ is a garage queen and about two weeks ago I took it for a short trip, so now the temps are quite warm in Texas. This is when I noticed the much higher coolant temp.

Here is the description of the part from Rockauto.

GATES 42004

Contents Water Pump, Gasket
Housing Cast Aluminum
Impeller Material Stamped Steel
Number of Outlets 2
Rotation of Impeller Reverse
Timing Belt Driven No

It's coming back. the old pump had R stamped but the new one did not, yet they were identical. meaning the fins were facing the same direction.
