Default Made a very stupid mistake...

I forgot to roll up passenger side window at some point... So now the carpet in passenger side is soaked wet. I even removed some panels to pull the carpet up and there was shallow pool of water underneath it along with padding!

Really don't want it to rust... So I'm trying to decide what to do. It seems like only real opinion is to pull the carpet out and let it dry and so I can wipe water off the floor as well.

Is there any other opinion? I know I can use hair dryer, fan, etc... But it is so wet that I can literally pull pad out and twist water out of it!

If there's no opinion beside pull the carpet out and let it dry... I'm thinking about painting the interior panels since they will all be out. Have anybody done this?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Guessing that you talking about the 87 xj? I would pull the carpet out and dry the carpet and floor boards. Also make sure that there is no wires or any kind of connections sitting in water. I would suggest to take the time and do it right.

Yup, the only vehicle I own... Alright... I just start to remove seat and... Found bunches shells from larva of kind from previous owner (Had it for only 3 months now... Guess it isn't a bad thing to remove the carpet after all.

As for painting interior panels... Would that be bad idea?

Also if I decide I want a new carpet... Can I go to like Lowes or Home Depot and buy some and cut it to fit? Or would that be a disaster?

I bought my XJ with full intention of actually working on it and upgrading it over time. I plan on keep it for as long as possible (I LOVE it!!!)
Since the color is weird (Plumish/Wine colorish) nothing match it. So I want to paint it eventually. So I'd replace carpet as well if it is possible.

Grab a Shopvac (wet/dry) and vacuume the water out. Then I'd run the jeep and turn the heat on to blow on the floor. Open the windows just a crack to let the moisture out.

Everyone leaves their windows down at some time in their life.

Agreed with what everyone else is suggesting. I wouldn't be so worried about rust, but you don't want mold and mildew setting in. Get it dried right.

So true but the xj's are awful about the floor boards rusting out so i would take the time and clean all the water out. Being that it has been so cold it would take forever for it to dry all the way out.

Lol thanks for the reassuring. Was really pissed and kicking myself in the *** repeatedly for leaving the window down and letting the passenger side get soaked wet.

I already removed some panels and seat. Plus I really don't like the carpet color and after finding larva shells from last owner, I was just really grossed out. So I think I'm just going to replace the carpet and I'm about to head to look at some interior paint as well.

As for rust, yes there's some minor rust under the carpet which is why I'm all over it like a dog on a spilled trash can.
