I recently ran into the infamous xj floor pan rust. Found out my carpet was trashed and moldy from the years of the windshield leaking on it. My question is has anyone bought carpet or vinyl online, whats the best site, price, and was it a direct fit or was there cutting involved. Just looking for some options. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for asking this question, I'm pulling my carpet and switching to vinyl. I did an internet search and only saw one option which seemed pricey for a piece of plastic. I hope someone has a cheap option.

Line the floors and use outdoor carpet cut to length and width. Without carpet, you'll get hot floors even with Rhino (I have it laid down THICK and it still gets hot). Also really cuts down on noise and still makes the floors soft for children or animals.

Yah that is true about the heat for sure . But I found that carpet just retains the moisture and your back with rusty floor in no time an vinyl I would assume wouldn't help much heat wise might even melt to the floor LMFAO !

yea i have been in a jeep that had a rhino lined floor, summer time is pretty much miserable in that thing. Ill stick to carpet and use weather tech floor mats.

There are several sites that sell carpet OEM style and fit, then you just buy Husky Liners floor mats. When they get full just dump them out I have front, back and in the cargo area with a small slit that fit my 4 HD U-Bolts that run through the floor for ratcheting tie downs. I pulled the stock ones the first time I secured my tool box down. I don't want things flying around if bad things happen.

What does the vinyl look like? and how about rhino lining the floor, then putting carpet back in?

That's what I was talking about. Line the floors then use outdoor carpet. It doesn't hold as much moisture or stains as the cut pile carpets do and it's cheap. Might want to remove the headliner board and put some R-value cellulose insulation behind the board. Really makes a HUGE difference (for both heat and AC). Also quiets down the interior a lot. If you get water in it with the outdoor carpet, just pull the carpet and floor plugs and let it dry in the sun or hang it up on a clothes line.

where can you get the outdoor carpet, I'm just not familiar with it?

DIY home improvement stores have it on large rolls. I used black because it was the cheapest.

You might be surprised by how much a good power washing and sun drying can help your carpet if it is physically intact.
