Default low range indicator light question

2001 Jeep XJ, low range indicator light (upper left on instrument cluster) is sometime on when pulling a grade in 2WD, then off when coasting down hill. ``Is on when shifting to 4WD low, on when pulling a grade but off when coasting downhill. why on when it should not be and off when it should not be?

Check your shifter adjustment and look at your engine and transmission mounts.

This is really embarasing! Especially in front of this group. The indicator light is "low washer" fluid.

Mine doesn't have a low range indicator, just a part time light that is on in 4x4 high or low.

"too funny" is too kind. I'm old, eyes bad, need to wear my glasses to read some questionable dash panel lights. Since the '60s - - 2 Willis Overlands, 2 IH Scouts, 2 TJs, couple of other 4WD, now on my 2nd XJ. Happy Wheeling to all.

don_gator,

You are certainly not the first to post a message regarding the "flickering" status light, that has the word "low" in it. It has tricked many a member here. Me included.

The low washer light in my 97 is always on when i turn the key, but only the word 'low' is fully lit. The 'washer' part of the light is lit, but barely. I did a doubletake on that once until i found out that the washer has a light of its own, and the transfer case lights read Part Time or Full Time, not low. First vehicle i drove with a low washer light, and the first vehicle i drove with 4wd. A double whammy.

welcome to the forum, it takes a big man to admit his mistakes and thanks for doing so. I remember when I had my eye exam last year it was so long between the last one the eye doctor had to check twice, I was told I was not legal to drive with current glasses and dont even think about driving at night
