Losing coolant - no evidence of mixing in the oil & vice versa. I'm 99% sure that it's overflowing from the radiator expansion bottle (mine has a non-pressurised overflow tank with the pressure cap on the rad). There is deffo evidence of coolant overflowing on this and I've spotted damp patch the odd time after being parked. Just not really sure how to stop it. Happens when stopped and engine off only.

Never overheats and been doing it for 8 months, just thought I'd tackle it now the weather is better lol

Suggestions for a fix?

 

Sounds like radiator cap is bad, not keeping pressure on the cooling system. I would start there also check make sure there are no holes/leaks anywhere else in the system.

 

Why didn't I think of that lol!!!

So bad cap = pressure flowing back into bottle = bottle emptying contents when engine off.

I'll try a new cap.

Pretty sure it's not leaking anywhere else, but I'll check again.

Might be the water pump as well. Check for wet spot behind the fan. If the spot on the ground is near the center of the vehicle, that may be your problem.

Also, if you disconnect the hose from the radiator cap nipple, and it is a bad rad cap... the wet spot will move.

I found the source of a coolant leak just the other day....

It was a little tear in the rubber line from the radiator to the overflow tank. All it took was cutting off the section with the tear and it was good as new.

Just lost about 1/2 cup of coolant after being turned off for 5 mins and can see drips off of right hand spring coil. Just had new radiator installed on 1997 Cherokee XJ and didn't leak for 1,400 mile trip two days before. Temp gauge did light up earlier when climbing hills in Utah so we switched off AC and turned on heater to dissipate over heating. Any ideas on where it would be coming from? I will check cap to start but don't see any leaks there. Thx. Dave
