As far as I know, the torque converter only locks up when it goes into overdrive past 4th gear.

Are you trying to keep it from doing the 1-2 shift?

Hi I did the write up on the TC lock, what it does is it stops the TC from locking and unlocking between 35-45 mph and you will also be able to use it to slow down the jeep going down big hills and mine keeps it in 1st as long as I want it to. You can find the writeup here "https://www.cherokeeforum.com/showthread.php?t=14114"

Default Why?

I need a little help understanding your setup trekkerJim. A torque converter allows a little slippage and at a certain RPM locks up 1:1. Your setup makes it stay locked up 1:1 until you tap the brake?

What are the advantages of this setup? Why would you do this? the safety you were talking about, what do you mean? So you don't manually lock your torque converter but once it locks on its own it stays locked????

THanks

OK the most easiest way to explain this is that in normal DD the TC locks between 35-45 mph or 1500 rpm's in 3rd gear so if you slow down a bit it is constantly locking and unlocking. I lock mine at 35-40 mph and it stays locked until I hit my brakes. When I drive on the beach I keep the shifter in 1-2 then lock the converter which in MY jeep it keeps it in 1st gear at about 5-10mph (that's the max speed allowed on my beaches in NJ) so I have a 1:1 lock on the trans and there is no TC slipping. You can also use this while going down steep inclines or mountains to lock the TC and it will let you stay off the brakes instead of riding them. I haven't tried the Mountains yet but I ride the beach almost everyday and it seems to keep the tranny running a little cooler. I have gone down a steep hill and locked it and it definitely helped me slow down...Tj
