Lock Rite Locker
Can anyone tell me if I can use the stock shaft in the Dana 30 also if anyone knows if it is hardened. Because I am going to be installing a Lock Rite Locker for both Dana 30 and Dana 35 axles.

Have you talked to loc-rite about installing there locker in the front end,I am not sure at what speed they will disengage when cornering, you may have some issues with steering if they do not disengage at low speeds. If this is strictly a trail rig then it is no big deal.

I had a lock rite in the front of my rig, and it SUCKED!! You may have a different experience than I did, but I hated it!! I have had one in the rear for a couple of years now, and have learned to live with it. It actually doesn't bother me, but the front one was a completely different story.

They do disengage at low speeds but if you have enough pressure to spread the gears it will lock. if you look at the hole were the cross shaft goes it is egg shaped.
that allows the cross pin to ride up the slope and spread the locker into the side gear and drivers. It is good to get the hardened shaft becsause it does take more pressurre than a stock one. I have had one in the rear and it does have some quirks when unlocking and locking cruising down the road sort of off throttle coast and back in the throttle maintaining speed. Off road i loved it.

I too have used them on the street in the front..I could hardly tell it was there. NOw for the one in the rear.... I had some torque steer when I would stomp the throttle.

I am also thinking of putting one in the front..I want to hear both sides of the equation.

Mine was ok at first, but really started making a ton of noise. Upon removing it, I found that 2 of the 4 alignment pind were sheared in half. During the time I "used" it, I didn't really bash on it, I really try to not beat my stuff up too bad. I really saw no reason for it to break the pins, and the install was very straight forward. I managed to get all of the pins and cylinders alighned, and it really seemed to fall together, as I heard they do. When it worked right, it was GREAT, but when it didn't, it was junk!! I have since purchased a Detroit Locker for my D30, and a spool for the rear, After the faiure of the front one, I had to pull the rear, I just didn't feel comfortable with it, and I thought it was getting noisier!! Could've been paranoya (sp)...LOL!!
