The only reason to consider locking hubs on a D30 is for flat towing IMO. Others may have better reasons but that is the only thing I can think of.

The hubs on a d30 are locked all the time. Your t-case either IS engaged or it ISNT.

The only reason to go with lockout hubs is if running a full locker which would allow turning without the bind.

So if your going full detroit...Do it in a D44 that is already setup with lockouts.

If you unlock the hubs, you will reduce wear and tear on the front driveline and axle.

plus won't that give you the option of 2wd low range?

I believe so. If the hubs aren't under power then it will be 2wd. There's a tera 2-low kit out there for 2-low if you want that without having to get lockouts.

The front driveline doesn't turn, the spider gears do and the left axle and right axle out to the disconnect turn in opposite directions.

The biggest advantage is most all "Hub" axles and up grade kits have bigger serviceable wheel bearings..

That is true but unit bearings are easy to change and require no maintainence. So I think they are better and so did Cryco evidently.
