Default knuckle on d30 won't turn

I just picked up a d30 HP from a yard to swap into my jeep. I didn't notice until later at home that the passenger side doesn't turn left to right. The left side turns. The pinion turns when I spin the rotors. But the knuckle is seized. I pounded on it stupid hard to get it to move. After a few minutes of hitting it turn half way but it did not become any more loose. So is it the ball joints that are seized to the knuckle then ? I'm not a mechanic and it just caught me by surprise. Anybody encountered this ? Is this normal ? Thanks

Sounds like you need new balljoints.

OK that's to be expected. I just never taught they could seize to the point of not being able to turn the knuckl even with a huge hammer. I will just swap in the whole knuckle from my old axle since it has new ball joints (that's as long as I'm able to remove them with no damage). Like I said I am no mechanic. Before I got the jeep I have never even changed brakes on a car. Now I am swapping an axle. Lol. Wish me luck.

If the axle was removed from a vehicle involved in a crash the whole thing may be tweaked. Look for damage before tearing in to it, did you get any type of warranty?

Yeah I could exchange it. But I don't see any damage. I used a string to measure the c in different spots on both axles. And it all seems the same. I just wanted to know if ball joints could actually seize this badly. Anyone else ?

Update. Good news I guess. Just pulled the axle shaft out. Knuckle moves freely. Its the u joints on the axle shaft that are seized. I will attempt to swap in an axle shaft from my old axle . if not I will just replace the u joints.

[QUOTE=SeriousOffroad;2938287][/QU

Thanks. I'm proud of myself. Not that long ago I didn't even know what a ujoint was . lol. I'm far from done but at least I know everything will work. All I'm using is hand tools. I have the knuckles and axle shafts off both axles. I need to swap knuckles because the caliper bolts snapped in the HP one. Wendsday I will put in a new u joint into the better shaft and install everything back into the HP. And then into the jeep. Once I get going I will need skids for control arms so the mounts don't brake off again and put me out off business in the middle of a trail again.
